Prof. Hartstein performs surgery to correct eyelid malpositions such as entropion and ectropion, utilizing minimal incisions, which postoperatively are usually invisible to the naked eye.
Entropion is a condition where the eyelid margin (upper or lower) turns in toward the eye. The eyelashes rub on the eye causing red eye, tearing, foreign body sensation and discharge. Entropion may be present at birth but can also occur as an adult.
Ectropion is a condition where the eyelid margin (upper or lower) turns outward, away from the eye. This results in tearing, redness, irritation and discharge. Ectropion may be present at birth, or secondary to trauma, surgery, skin cancer, or most commonly with age.
