It may be congenital or after surgical removal of the eye because of trauma, severe pain in a blind eye, or eye cancer. Prof. Hartstein believes it is crucial to reconstruct the eye socket so that the lids and socket function properly, and so that it cosmetically matches the other eye as much as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Possible procedures for the anophthalmic socket include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ptosis repair (droopy lid).<\/li>\n<li>Placement of an orbital implant.<\/li>\n<li>Filling hollow areas (dermal fillers or fat transfer).<\/li>\n<li>Canthoplasty (tightening the lower lids)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prof. Hartstein has developed extensive expertise in eye-removal surgery as well as treating pediatric and adult anophthalmic (after eye-removal) patients with surgical and non-surgical techniques.
